"Jonathan Kline has done a real service to students of Biblical Aramaic. This book offers a genuinely manageable way to stop painstakingly learned vocabulary from slipping out of memory. The well-chosen daily selections really do require only a few minutes' study, but the material will stay in the mind for much longer. Anyone who has previously studied Biblical Aramaic will be able to fit this book into even the busiest schedule and profit from it."
–Jennie Grillo, Assistant Professor of Old Testament, Duke Divinity School
"What a clear and superb presentation of the grammar of Biblical Aramaic! Indeed, in just two minutes per day, one can continue to read and enjoy and appreciate the original text of the Aramaic portions of Ezra and Daniel. In fact, over the course of the year, at just two minutes per day, one will have completed almost the entire corpus."
–Gary A. Rendsburg, Blanche and Irving Laurie Professor of Jewish History, Rutgers University
"Language learning is a costly investment on many levels. Reading the Bible in Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic is a skill acquired only through many months of difficult effort, yet after coursework ends, life and work get in the way, and the ability to access Scripture in its original language fades. Now with Jonathan Kline's series, language learners can not only protect and sustain the knowledge they've acquired—they can build new skills. These expertly designed Two Minutes a Day books will help anyone who has taken an introductory Biblical language course revive their reading ability, and the lessons can even function as daily devotional readings in the original language. While working through the short passages in these books, I felt as though I had a wise language teacher by my side. Kline is that teacher, and through these volumes readers will again feel the excitement and joy of connecting with the Bible in the language of its authors."
–Brian R. Doak, Associate Professor of Biblical Studies and Faculty Fellow in the William Penn Honors Program, George Fox University
"What if you could remember and use the biblical languages you fell in love with while you were learning them in seminary or graduate school? Even better, what if you could do it by spending a tiny amount of your time each day? Most of us would argue that our lives are just too busy for language study, but Dr. Jonathan Kline has come up with the ideal solution. He asks us for just two minutes each day, and surely two extra minutes can fit into anybody's schedule! In addition, we all know that for us to experience long-term comfort with a language, nothing can replace daily use of it, so Dr. Kline has devised his system around committing those two minutes each and every day of the year. We have needed these books for a long time, and I personally will be very happy to have them in my library."
–Jo Ann Hackett, Professor of Middle Eastern Studies and Professor of Religious Studies, The University of Texas at Austin
Most of us who have studied Biblical Aramaic in seminary or graduate school find it difficult to read the Aramaic portions of the Bible with ease or solid comprehension. Keep Up Your Biblical Aramaic in Two Minutes a Day has been specially designed to help you read a small amount of Biblical Aramaic daily, in a manageable, enriching, and enjoyable way. It does not replace the need for a grammar or textbook; rather, it complements grammatical study by helping you to build a robust vocabulary and to review morphology and syntax in a completely inductive way, and without using any grammatical jargon. The page for each day presents:
More than one-third of the words in Biblical Aramaic appear only once in the Bible. When these hapax legomena begin to be presented in Keep Up Your Biblical Aramaic in Two Minutes a Day (about three-fifths of the way through the book), all that appear in a particular verse (whether this be one hapax legomenon, two, or several) are presented together as the new words for the day. The result is that—although there are 716 unique vocabulary words in Biblical Aramaic—by the time you reach the end of this book you will have seen every single one of these words. And during this process, you will have read most (about 80 percent) of the Aramaic verses found in the Bible!
